Tierra del Fuego is an island separated from the American continent by the Strait of Magellan and its territory is divided between Argentina and Chile. The surface area of the Argentine sector of the island, which includes Isla de los Estados, is 21,571 square kilometers. The Province of Tierra del Fuego is bordered to the north by the Strait of Magellan, to the east by the Atlantic Sea, and to the west and south by Chile and the Beagle Channel. The province's territory also includes an area of Antarctica claimed by Argentina and a group of islands located in the South Atlantic (Malvinas Islands, South Georgia and South Sandwich Islands). Ushuaia, the capital of the province, is located 3,079 kilometers from Buenos Aires and 1,000 kilometers from the Antarctic Peninsula.
